Art in Nature Ribbon Cutting

Lackawanna Heritage Valley National and State Heritage Area (LHV) will host the Art in Nature Ribbon Cutting on Tuesday, June 27, at 4 p.m., at the Nay Aug Avenue Natural Play Area in the Green Ridge section of Scranton. The event celebrates the installation of the Art in Nature exhibit inside the Fidelity Fishing Shack.
The exhibit features winning designs from LHV’s community art contest held earlier this season. People of all ages and skill levels submitted original, nature-themed artwork for consideration. Nearly 100 entries were received. A panel of judges selected 20 winners in three categories (elementary, middle to high school, and community/adult) and six pieces earned Honorable Mention.
Art in Nature is designed to enhance the natural beauty of the site, and to create teachable moments for families visiting the play area. Guests will enjoy perusing an eclectic mix of styles and subject matter, ranging from landscapes to wildlife, and reading educational facts included on each panel.
This project was financed in part through funds provided by a National Park Service grant from the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (PA DCNR) Community Conservation Partnerships Program Environmental Stewardship Fund under the administration of DCNR’s Bureau of Recreation and Conservation. Pennsylvania Environmental Council’s Pocono Forest & Waters Conservation Landscape Conservation Assistance Program awarded the grant.
The Nay Aug Avenue Natural Play Area is located on Nay Aug Avenue between Green Ridge Street and East Market Street, near the Green Ridge Shopping Center. Click here for a Google map link. For more information, call 570.963.6730, ext. 8200.
